The Seconds Edit

A small, limited release of sample and seconds pieces - each with minor, lovable imperfections, offered at a reduced price. Strictly limited. Once they are gone, they are gone.

A guide to our Seconds edit

What you might see, and why it's part of the stone.
Every Seconds Edit piece is cut from natural stone and finished by hand, so small variations are normal. Here's what "minor imperfection" can mean:
  • Marks that look like scratches but aren't — fine natural lines from the stone or finishing process, sitting within the surface rather than scratched into it.
  • Natural veining — a vein can read like a line or crack at a glance; it's an inherent feature of the marble, not damage.
  • Tonal variation — some areas may be lighter, deeper or warmer than others. No two pieces share the same pattern.
  • Natural pits & fissures — small openings or hairline veins that occur naturally in travertine and marble.
  • Filled spots — tiny natural cavities filled during finishing, standard for natural stone.
  • Finish variation — a soft matte patch or slight difference in polish across the surface.
  • Hand-finished quirks — a marginally uneven edge, base or thickness from being made by hand.
None of these affect how a piece is used or loved. We have photographed some examples so you can see its character before it's yours. All Pieces are final.

The design was later produced in a larger size, so the original sample is offered at a reduced price. No imperfections - simply smaller than the final piece (11cm).

The stone colouring simply differs from the rest of the collection, so it is offered at a reduced price rather than sold as part of the range.

A piece in perfect condition, simply made without the incense hole. Fully usable as a dish or holder, and offered at a reduced price.

The veining across the surface can look like a scratch, but it is a natural line within the stone, not surface damage.

A darker marking sits in one corner, natural to the stone - a variation in the material, not damage or a stain.

A small circular rough patch sits within the natural stone - a texture that occurs naturally in the material, not damage.

The veining across the surface can look like a scratch, but it is a natural line within the stone, not surface damage.

A slight scuff to the surface where the colour of the marble has lifted in one small area. Minor and stable - the reason the piece is offered as a second, at a reduced price.

An unreleased piece with no faults. As a brand we decided against releasing this piece, so it is one of a kind.

A small area of darker discolouration within the natural stone. Purely cosmetic and stable - the reason the piece is offered as a second, at a reduced price.

Strong, dramatic veining runs through this piece - bolder than the rest of the collection, and full of character for someone who loves natural stone at its most expressive. In perfect condition, simply offered at a reduced price.

A soft bubbling effect through the veining gives this piece a distinctive, characterful surface - natural to the stone, and one for someone who loves marble at its most expressive. In perfect condition, simply offered at a reduced price.

Frequently asked questions

No - they're seconds and samples with minor cosmetic imperfections (fine marks that look like scratches but aren't, natural variation in tone, small natural pits or gentle quirks) that don't affect use. They simply didn't meet our first-quality standard for full-price sale.

Not exactly - and that's the beauty of natural stone. We have photographed some examples where possible so you can see examples of its tone, veining and any imperfections up front. Expect slight variation in tone and veining, and natural marks that can look like scratches but are part of the stone, not damage.

Please note that all sales are final; we are unable to accept returns or exchanges for a change of mind. Should an item arrive with an undisclosed fault or fail to match its description, we invite you to contact us at support@cotheory.com.au, and we will gladly resolve the matter in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law.

The Seconds Edit is released in small batches and is not restocked. Join the CoTheory Collective to hear first when new pieces drop.

Every so often, a piece does not quite meet our first-quality standard - a faint mark, a subtle variation in the stone, a small quirk from the making process. None of it affects how the piece is lived with or loved; it simply means it cannot be sold as new.

Rather than let these pieces go to waste, we are offering them at a reduced price as part of The Seconds Edit - a small, limited release for those who appreciate natural materials in their truest form. Because each piece is cut from natural stone, no two are ever identical; the imperfections are simply part of the story.

Quantities are strictly limited and these pieces will not be restocked. All Seconds Edit pieces are final sale.
